Dialogue, Air, and Chorus at the Commencement in the College
of Philadelphia, May 30th, 1765.
Damon.
'Tis done--your patient ear we greet no more,
With varied strains of academic lore.
Prepared we now to frame some joyous lay,
In rapturous mode, to close this festal day,
. . . [9 lines]
. . . Strike bold the lyre,
And let returning peace the strain inspire--
Air.
Peace! Thou white-rob'd child of light:
. . . [5 lines, then 24 lines]
. . . Wake the song;
And let these vaulted roofs, the ecchoing notes prolong!
Chorus.
Sons of Science! loudly sing;
Let these vaulted roofs resound.
. . . [9 lines]
